Valentine’s Day – a yearly Ragnarok for roses and other flowers!
These flowers are glacier lillies, by the way, but I can imagine some flower fiend picking them and selling them as Viking Roses. I’m spared buying slaughtered flowers for my wife today since I created this comic. She loves comics with the “angry little flower”, so I get a pass on the real thing. I’m still on for cooking dinner tonight, though. Linguine and scallops are on the menu. If the food is good enough, maybe I can talk her into watching Valhalla Rising while we eat.
Anyway, Happy Holiday!
Update on new comics. It’s on, folks! I’ve already got a bunch of new stuff created that I’m planning to launch soon. I want to get another couple weeks produced for a proper buffer, and then I’m going to let the arrows fly. I don’t have a solid launch date yet, but I’m thinking sometime during the last week in February or the first week in March to restore regular updates. Thanks for your comments and emails demanding more toons – rest assured, Odin is saddling up his eight legged horse to ride again!
And then, there was one. Standing alone on the great plain of Vigrid, awash in blood. Despite losing over 500 comrades, our hero has not lost his lust for life. Unfortunately, reason will not work against a beast who lives only to eat, crap, and have unprotected sex with his siblings.
That’s it for the Odin and Friends version of the Two Towers. Tolkien it surely is not, but hopefully you’ve enjoyed this rare glimpse into the flora and fauna of Asgard. The battle that occurs there every spring when the snow melts may also be taking place in your own backyard right now.
Odin is back on Tuesday!
Back to Vigrid! The battle rages!
It’s a sad moment when you realize the most damage you can do to your enemy is to give him diarrhea after he eats you. It’s an ever sadder moment when you contemplate the saga that will be written about this accomplishment.
The salad bar is open! Let the battle begin! For Odin!
Unfortunately, there are distinct disadvantages to being a glacier lilly on the battlefield. Lack of mobility is one of them. It’s tough to stand around and watch your kinsmen be eaten alive when you are rooted to the ground.
It may be noble to show up to a fight alone, but it increases the odds of victory to show up with 500 screaming kinsmen carrying swords, axes, and spears!
Revenge can be a generational thing. Last year one brave glacier lilly faced the Giant Beast of the Cloudberry Bush by himself. Sadly he was devoured and carried away by Valkyries to the salad bar at Valhalla. But now the seed of his stamen has risen from the ground to seek revenge! And with him, many brothers in arms.
Now if he can only keep from getting stepped on before that darn rabbit shows up we might have a fight worth watching!
The long Asgardian winter finally gives way to spring. The great plain of Vigrid, foretold battlefield of the Ragnarok, shall soon taste the blood of another conflict. Although you and I may never know the names of those who fought there, to them the battle will be every part as significant as the final world shattering clash itself.
More about this situation on Thursday.
Not to be confused by the Tolkien title of the same name, Odin and Friends kicks off a two week (or thereabouts) mini-series plotting the revenge of the glacier lillies against the foul, fanged, impressively-eared Giant Beast of the Cloudberry Bush.
By the way, to the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as a “cloudberry bush” found anywhere on Midgard (but there are cloudberry plants found in the far northern regions) — but one can certainly imagine such things in Asgard.
More on Tuesday!
